What I Wanna Wear Wednesdays.
I am a sucker for any skirt, top, dress, jacket or man coming out of Australia so when I found a store on my favorite street in Venice (my credit card thanks you Giddings) that only sells Aussie labels, the only question I found myself asking was, “What else can I buy?” So after a Cameo and Zanerobe overload-yes, I even bought men’s clothing-I walked away and realized what I really want to wear is this skirt by Australian designer and stylist, Ellery. Let’s start with the obvious, it’s my favorite of all the pantones and I love a little origami appeal.
For styling purposes, it’s easy to go all black with the pop of color in the skirt, but what did we learn growing up about easy? It was something really important. I would instead compliment the skirt with lighter colors (white, grey, nude) but add a hint of black with this black bondage bralette by Lovers & Friends and the Saint Laurent heels that I am now obsessed with-two pieces that will certainly pay for themselves. Adding a touch of black keeps the look cool-weather appropriate without being too harsh or obvious. A fashion blazer like this one by Helmut Lang will tone down it all down and give you a little professional appeal but switching it out in the evening for a bomber or leather jacket will bring you back to life. I would opt for a looser, revealing tank (of course I would) to show off fancy underpinnings and sloppily tuck it in to the structured skirt for balance. When you feel like you’re almost ready to take on the world, accent the look with turquoise’s favorite colors: red, yellow, lilacs or more turq. Then, call me and we will hit up our new favorite store.
