Skirting Around

I am so excited that despite the date on my calendar, the LA temps are on the rise and (as if it ever stopped me before) it is now *Al Roker acceptable to wear short skirts and ab-baring tops…this week at least. I love this structured top from Zara because something about it reminds me of what Balenciaga did a few seasons ago that would have looked great nestled between the overworked Kill City tank tops in my closet. Though you can never go wrong with black, in this case I prefer the marble print to the solid black version because it gives the look dimension-two solids don’t always make a right.

You almost have to wear this shirt with a high waistline to avoid looking 100% hussy because even with the extra coverage you’re flashing a little more than usual. I like to layer it up when I’m at work so it’s not too revealing. For a more sophisticated look, a black blazer works perfect or add a pop of color in the jacket if you’re wearing it with a black skirt-on that note, if you need to look sophisticated in the workplace, you might also add a lace bodysuit underneath for more coverage (or even save this look for the weekend). I usually dress it down with my favorite army jacket or denim button-up because adding something a little rough around the edges takes away the desperate look of doing the most. There is nothing more embarrassing than trying too hard.

*Al Roker is an American television weather forecaster--you might have seen him on The Today Show. If not, you should really watch more news.
