My everyday look is heavily inspired by the laid-back lifestyle that typically comes from living within walking distance from the Pacific Ocean (Disclaimer: though my closet is relaxed, Monday through Friday I am mental). Yes, I wear a lot of jeans and oversized tanks with my Adidas Sambas but when I want to dress it up a little bit for a night out or even on the job, I like maxi dresses and skirts like this one from Planet Blue, a store that epitomizes SoCal style.
When date night comes around, it’s nice to pair a maxi (especially if it has slits) with a pair of open heels and a leather jacket…which is another reason you should be out with a man of appropriate height. The skirt I am wearing is one of the few in my closet that sits on my hips rather than high on my waist. When that is the case, take a note from TSwizzle and avoid anything cropped above the belly button. For those chilly mornings that kick off a busy day, I like to pair the skirt with my black oversized Madewell sweater and over-the-knee boots - they aren’t just a staple in Vivian Ward’s closet. Cozied up with a little sass on the bottom, trade the floral print in for all-black and it’s as New York as I’ll ever be.
